Pet Insurance
The Need for Pet Insurance
We recommend pet insurance to our clients to help provide the best possible care for our pets. Similar to (human) medical insurance, pet insurance helps cover the cost of veterinary treatment, should pets need veterinary attention.

Just as human medical and surgical treatment involves significant cost, veterinary treatment requires similar equipment, training and expertise.

Veterinary medicine keeps evolving, just as human medical science evolves, and we can now offer amazing treatments once though impossible. CT scans and MRI are now available for pets, as are prosthetic implants, total hip replacements, spinal surgery and brain surgery to name a few advances.

Types of Insurance
There are a range of types of pet insurance available to pet owners. Difference policies will cover differing levels of insurance - from 'accident only' to 'accident plus illness' to complete cover. Selected policies will contribute towards routine health-care costs like vaccinations and flea control.
As each policy is different, it is best to check out a range of policies to find out which suits your pets requirements.

The Fine Print
As with other forms of insurance, Pet Insurance usually applies an excess. Most policies will cover 75% of the veterinary expenses covered by the policy. This can differ between policies and it is important to understand what is covered by each individual policy. Pet insurance policies, just like medical insurance generally, will not cover pre-existing conditions which have been diagnosed before the cover was taken out. There are usually limits on the total cost of treatment payable per annum, with sub-categories for different areas- ie dentisry/skin conditions/radiograph. Some policies may not cover certain conditions.

Which Policy?
There are many different companies and many policies available. It is best to check out difference policies and decide which one suits your pet best. Check out our links to difference insurance companies. Please note that we do not recommend any particular company or policy specifically.
